Confessions of An Ex-Travel Volleyball Player

Travel Volleyball - a loss of social life during your adolescence in pursuit of a collegiate volleyball career. Late nights practicing, long three-day tournaments, and unforgettable memories with the best friends you will ever have.

1. Any ball you find you set/bump

Literally, any kind of ball. Big or small, we will find a way to set it.

2. Anytime you're in a big city you reminisce

Forget childhood memories of visiting Disney World and seeing Mickey Mouse, your lasting memories are the ones you spent running around Universal with your crazy teammates.

3. When a teacher gets mad you imagine what punishment you will get

No one did the homework? Get on the line. Thank god teachers can't actually do that…or can they?

4. Whenever you're in an empty hallway you start your approach

Right. Left. Right. Swing.

5. Spandex are a must for any outfit day or night

Is this dress slutty? No problem though I’ll just wear spandex underneath.

6. Intramural volleyball is a living HELL

A bunch of people acting like they know what they're doing is just plain cringe-worthy. Just stop. PLEASE STOP.

7. You can remember the last point of your last match still

That's what ended it all, either on a win or loss. You remember the whistle blowing, the cheers from the stands. It's forever burned in your memory.

8. The friends you made playing volleyball are probably still your best friends

Win together, lose together, teammates. No friendship is like a volleyball friendship. Chances are you’ve screamed at them to get the ball but unlike other girls, yours just shake it off. You’ve spent so much time with them you’re practically family. Not even college can change this friendship.

9. No matter how much you complained you would do it all over again in a heartbeat.

Every practice, tournament, win or loss, you would do anything to just play one more match.

On the Upper East Side, Blair Waldorf is an icon. She's what every girl aspires to be. She's beautiful, confident, and can handle any obstacle that life throws at her. Sure, she may just be a television character. But for me, she's a role model and theres a lot that can be learned from Queen B.

The Perks of Being a Girl

“I just want you to know that you’re very special… and the only reason I’m telling you is that I don’t know if anyone else ever has.”

We Heart It

Over the past decade, television has undergone a very crucial transition: the incorporation of female lead characters. Since it's a known fact that girls actually do run the world (Beyonce said so herself), it's time for the leading ladies of the small screen to get some credit. Without these characters, women would still be sitting in the background of our favorite shows. These women are not only trailblazers for female empowerment, but role models for women worldwide. With that, here are 15 of the smartest, sassiest ladies gracing our screens that remind us that women do, indeed, rule:
