I am an avid music lover -- always have been, always will be. That does not mean my music tastes are always the most popular stuff, however. Belting out, "I'll make a man out of yooouuuuuu" (from Mulan, in case you were wondering) with blaring headphones in, on the way to class, does not get me the most attractive looks from people. I know half of you are in the same boat and just do not want to admit it, so I will spare you the pain of having to say it out loud. You can just smile quietly to yourself while reading this article.
Number one misunderstood band of all time: Nickelback. Everyone hates on them. Why? I'm not sure. Those goatees and husky sounding voices are not half bad. I cannot even tell you the amount of times my mom and I have jammed out in the car to "Rockstar" and then the next day pretended like we do not even know who they are. A good friend of mine once asked me to go to their concert (paid ticket and all) and I refused because I "couldn't do it." Who am I even kidding? I have 11 Nickelback songs on my iPod.
Number two is a killer. Having been born in 1994, I had constant exposure as a child to Disney movies, stories, and music as I am sure many my age did. I remember consistently playing my Mulan, Cinderella & Belle CD in order to fall asleep when I was little. That love for silly voices and corny lyrics has carried over into my twenties, as my Pandora station does not change from "Disney Classics." If you ever need a good jogging playlist, whip that out and you are good to go!
High School Musical is probably number three. No, I was not one of those people that practiced the dances, or duplicated Gabriella's outfits in high school. But, oh yeah, did I dance in my seat when the songs came on in the car, or jump up when it was on TV to jokingly act out Troy's scene on the golf course. I cannot sing or dance at all, but it sure looks like I can when the dance moves and lyrics are that terribly choreographed.
The last one is definitely not the least: Celine Dion. No matter what you say, every girl, even if you are "not like other girls," has listened to the Titanic soundtrack and cried like you are in love with a dying man. While none of my guy friends may ever understand the heart and soul that went into that music, many girls reading this will know exactly what I am talking about. We all have looked her up on YouTube just to find the live version of “My Heart Will Go On."
