Confession: I Am Sick of One Sided "Feminism"

The other day, scrolling on Facebook as usual, I read my share of posts and memes about the hurricane that just swept through the Gulf Coast, Colin Kaepernick and the usual rants about personal relationships. What I also saw was something that has been showing up everywhere so much that sometimes my brain automatically ignores it.

What I saw was a picture of a little boy pumping gas for his aunt which was accompanied by a sentimental caption where the aunt was explaining that her young nephew told her that while a man was around, no woman should pump her own gas. This is a perfect example of traditional chivalry from a man (or in this case a boy), towards a woman.

One of my Facebook friends reposted the picture explaining how she felt that after all of these years, we should have moved beyond these "olden times" and evolve our conscious to the point that we understand that women are just as capable to do these things and much more (even though the post never questioned the capabilities of women). Now, she could have just left it at that, but the self proclaimed "feminist" proceeded to express herself, saying that she can't respect a woman who would even raise their child to think that he should have to do things like this for "lazy (expletive) women." Although I am fully aware that the concept of chivalry is extremely unappreciated these days, the caption really just... well--- It got on my nerves.

My first thought about this was "why is she so mad"? I toyed with the idea that she may not have been hugged enough as a child before I came to the conclusion that there is no use in speculating what her issue might be.

Aside from my usual qualms with "feminism" (ya' know, how feminism isn't really "here for" the Black community), my main thing is that some women genuinely want to be treated politely by men. Yes, some may see it as offensive and prefer that men leave them alone to complete all tasks on their own and take care of themselves, but others beg to differ.

What many people fail to realize is that what feminism is supposed to be about is the protection of the rights and preferences of all women... ALL WOMEN! So talking badly about those who want to be treated nicely and who prefer to raise their children to treat other humans the way they themselves like to be treated is really counterproductive and extremely annoying.

I will raise my sons (if I ever have any) to be courteous to all people, especially women in respect to the feminine energy that women possess and that is vital to the overall well-being of the world. That should not be looked down upon.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?
