Going To Concerts: As Told By GIFS

Ever since I was in middle school going to concerts has been one of my favorite activities. It is an escape for me. I get to leave any troubles behind for a few hours and just have fun. For me, going to a concert can become an all day activity. At first, I started getting to concerts early because I am a bit short and if there are people in front of me I have trouble seeing the stage. This means that I have to get to concert hours in advance to guarantee a good spot. But now, I get in line extra early just for the experience. If you're lucky, some bands will come and greet you in line while you're waiting. Also, some of my best friendships have been made by meeting people standing in line hours before a concert. I take the day of a concert in different stages, and here are those stages as told by GIFS.

1. Waking up super early to get ready

In order to secure a close spot in line, I often have to wake up very early. When the alarm goes off I give myself a few minutes to process how early it is, but then excitement takes over and I forget my exhaustion.

2. Waiting in line

At first, waiting in line can be very boring. Especially if there are not a lot of people there yet. Time can feel like it's going by so slowly and you just want to get in.

3. Making new friends in line

Since everyone is in line for the same reason, to see one of their favorite bands or artists, it is very easy to find things to talk about. Some of my best friends in the world are people I met in line at concerts. Having a common interest right from the start is a definite plus.

4. Finally getting in and running to get a good spot

Security always makes a point to say "no running," and I definitely try my best to follow that rule. However, when people further back in the line start getting excited and start to run, I often find myself having to run to find a spot. Otherwise, they'll cut in front of me or I'll get trampled.

5. Waiting for your favorite band to come on

When I get to my spot after a very long day and am waiting for the band to come on, I often can't contain my excitement.

6. Dancing to some of your favorite songs

There's nothing like hearing and dancing to your favorite songs live. No matter how many times I see a band live, I never get over the feeling of excitement.

Concerts are definitely an experience, and for me often an all day commitment. However, they are very worth it for me and I could never find a replacement for the feelings of excitement and happiness that I feel when I'm in the crowd at a concert.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
