Recently I attended a concert that I had been waiting to go to since last November. Although I had already seen the band in question in London, I was just as excited because I had gotten floor seats. Once the concert started and was coming to an end, I realized that the concert environment in the United States is a lot different from that environment in other places. Both of the concerts overall were really great but there was something in the U.S. show that made it extra special.
The overall atmosphere of the concert was a lot better than the one in London. Whether it was because I had floor seats or not, I have no idea. People in general were having such a better time at the one in the States, including the band. There was so much screaming it was kind of annoying but the way that we screamed when we sang the songs from the band made up for it. My friend said that one of the main differences between concerts was that the band for the most part probably could have just sat there the entire time and not played anything.
In London however, people kind of just sat there and for the most part did nothing. They screamed alright but not to the level that they did at the second concert I attended. At times at the concert in London I often felt embarrassed that I was screaming and standing up the entire time. It may just be because British people are often quiet and very reserved. I think that they could tell my friend and I were not from around there, especially because of the fact that we had an American accent when we spoke. In the States I felt at home because people were screaming and carrying on as much as my friend and I were.
Also, the band seemed to enjoy themselves more as well. The funniest joke that they made in London was about how grown up we should feel that many of us took the Tube (the major public transportation system in London) all by ourselves. The joke in New York, however, was a bit more inappropriate and not family friendly. At the end of both shows, the band came out and took their bows but what really amazed me was the fact that they got off the stage for the one in New York AND ACTUALLY CAME INTO THE CROWD TO PASS OUT THE GUITAR PICKS AND DRUMSTICKS. They didn't even pass out anything to the crowd at the London show.
What I also thought was a major difference was the opening acts. Although one band stayed the same for both show, the other opener was completely different and in my opinion somewhat comical. In the London show it was a singer that mostly sang easy-listening pop songs, however, the one in New York featured a very metal scream kind of vibe. We can definitely learn that the US tends to like bands that are a little more out-there than other countries.
Overall, both concerts were good and I can honesty say that I liked both of them for different reasons. My overall take-away is that if you want to go to a concert just to listen to the music and relax, than go to one in England. On the flip side, if you want to have fun and not care about what people think, go to one in the states.
