Not All Concert Goers Are Who You Think They Are.

Why it is totally possible to like a band that you are older than.

As many of my closets friends know, I am a little too into a band called 5 Seconds of Summer, or 5sos for short. A lot of their fans are of the high school age (14-18). While it's common for me to see teenagers at these concerts, it is also very common to see people who are about my age.

I get a lot of issues from certain people when I tell them that I like this band. "Why?" "Aren't you a little old for a teenie bopper band?" or "Isn't it weird that you're older than them?" I'm here to tell you that I really don't care that I am too old for them because guess what, I'm not too old for them.

I went to two 5sos concerts in the past year and there where just as many young adults as there were teenagers in the crowd. Which is why I don't understand why whenever someone goes to review them, the writer mentions key words such as, "teenagers" and how 5sos is a "teenie bopper band". Never once did they mention that 5sos appeals to a variety of girls and even some boys, who aren't dragged to the concerts by their girlfriends. 5sos has many more people who go by themselves without a parent than other bands than say, 1D, because they are older. Why do I have to be a certain age or a certain type of person to like bands like this?

In the New York concert I attended someone who was sitting next to me decided to record the first live performance of their new single Boys Talk Girls. (Through the comments I realized that the girl was sitting right next to me). I then realized that you can clearly hear me scream and say some pretty inappropriate things. To which I was totally embarrassed about it enough as it was. However, I happened to read some of the comments to which one person compared me to a "hormonally stressed teenager". There were various other comments such as that one which really offended me. Why do I have to be a teenager to like this band?

Clearly people have to do their research better. It is also like that for many other fandoms as well. A common example comes from one I used to belonged to - The Wanted FanFamily. Many of their fans were well over the age of 40. I am also sure Justin Bieber has his fair share of people who are way beyond their age to like him as well.

Why do people fail to see that there are others who don't necessarily fit the stereotypes of a band fandom? For example, I like some bands that one may consider "emo-screamo". Do I look like a metal head? No. I have blond hair, and a normal amount of piercings. My friend likes rap and is she no where near someone who you would think would like it.

Just because a certain artist or band appeals to one type of person does not mean that all of the people who are sitting in the seats fit that stereotype. Next time you listen to a group and are told by others that you shouldn't listen, you should listen to them even more.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
