I love makeup. Make all the "Captain Obvious, you're a girl of course you love makeup" jokes you want.
If I'm wearing a full face of makeup, someone will inevitably try to tease and ask me who I'm trying to impress. (Surprise, the answer is myself!)
Listen, I know that I don't need makeup to impress anyone. I'm perfectly fine without it and on a lot of days, natural is the way I choose to go into the world.
The fact of the matter is, I genuinely enjoy wearing makeup. Not only is it a fun hobby for me, the process is incredibly calming. the finished product is something that I can be proud of. To myself and many others, makeup is a form of art.
Not only is makeup a cool pastime and creative outlet, it's fun to experiment with. When you start to use makeup, you have to find products that work for you. Not all foundations work on every skin type. Not all lipstick suits every skin tone. There are so many different formulas, brands, and shades of makeup that you just have to try.
This does not even include how many different processes or ways of wearing makeup there are to test. Do you like liquid, gel, or pencil eyeliner? Do you like stick or liquid lipstick? Do you like powder or cream eyeshadow? You experiment until you find the things you like wearing the most. Eventually you end up with products and a routine just for you.
Another comment I'd like to stop hearing is that I'm wearing too much makeup. OK, I know that too much makeup is definitely a thing. However, it's a thing that has very different meanings depending on who you ask. I have friends who wear minimal makeup, such as only foundation or only eyeliner, and anything beyond that would be too much for their liking. For those who enjoy going all out, though, too much might be clown contouring. Therefore, unless we have the same definitions of too much makeup, I'd appreciate if you kept your opinions to yourself.
If I wake up in the morning and decide to fill in my eyebrows or contour my face until it's so sharp it could kill a man, rest assured that my decision was not even remotely based on impressing someone other than myself. You create your confidence, and I will create mine.
