No matter your outlook upon the outcome of Tuesday night, this presidential election is raking in far more controversy about morals than political points. Regardless of whether or not they made it to the voting booth, it seems everyone has more than just a quiet opinion about the results.
The overwhelming reaction to Trump’s election is an orchestrated symphony of conflict between “right” and “wrong” opinion; made clear by the diverse public attitude.
Although so many people are willing, however, to complain about what possibilities are arisen with the new National representative, only a fraction of them were willing to place their views onto a ballot.
Unfortunately, these unspoken views are causing a divide in our community that should not be there.
First of all, let me make it clear that we do NOT need to accept each other’s differing opinions.
These differences are what democracy is for, and imagining a society where everyone puts aside their arguments and sings “kumbaya” is unrealistic. The reasonable solution, however, is for there to be an agreement in disagreement.
Remember that those people with outlooks unlike your own were, and are still, your fellow American neighbors. No person is superior to another based on who they supported throughout this presidential campaign.
Secondly, the President is formally our political representative and commander in chief. He does not dictate how we treat one another, nor how we view cultural differences. While Trump is criticized (reasonably) for his offensive bigotry, his prejudice is a reflection of his naïve personality and not his legal purpose.
And, while his job description brings up another case in argument amongst differing political parties, we as a people need to accept the results of our election.
With the campaign over and the office filled, our next step is not to degrade our country and Donald Trump.
An anti-Trump citizen does not improve their surroundings by clarifying their opposing views; while a Trump supporter does not prove anything by acting superior due to the republican victory.
It is imperative that as a unified society we hope for the best outcome in every situation leading forward -- to hope for a successful Trump presidency is to hope for a successful improvement in America.
Anything less would be a step backwards.
