Human beings are emotional by nature. Most of the time, we experience our feelings very deeply, try our best daily, and say hello to each other in passing. The majority of human beings, I would like to believe, are full of compassion. It is so easy to find the ones that aren't, because they put their feelings on full display, particularly on social media. The nasty comments, bold and overgeneralized statements, and small-minded, uneducated thinking that is seen every day on these platforms is so low. No matter what religion, political party, or any other belief you identify with, it's safe to say that some people are just inhumane.
"Addiction is a choice. I don't feel bad for people that die by overdose."
"Well, that's what they get for doing this or that ... Serves them right."
"She is too skinny or too heavy, wearing too much makeup and too short of a skirt..."
I'm not sure when we got away from being kind and understanding, or if we ever really were at all, but I do wish that more people would try to be. It's not difficult. In fact, it's quite simple. Don't be a jerk. Try to understand where a person is standing and what they are experiencing before you criticize or belittle them. And please, most of all, if you have never endured a particular situation, know that you really aren't in the position to offer any comment at all.
It's just so disheartening to see the same negative energy day after day. You can't watch a funny video or follow your favorite singer on Instagram without reading toxic words from people hiding behind keyboards. Some people don't even try to hide their lack of compassion–they wear it proudly in person, while being mean to the ones unfortunate enough to be around for collateral damage.
The hateful noise is just so loud lately. I don't blame people at all for wanting to log off of their devices or stay home with a good book instead of going out and socializing. Yes, the world is cruel at times, but that doesn't give you an excuse to be... At all.
