To start, let's be clear, I'm not here to bash other majors. We may not have one of the hardest majors offered on campus, but we are some of the hardest working people, so please don't take that away from us.
Being a Communications major is great. As a group of people we are some of the most creative people on campus, putting our thoughts into incredible articles, pictures, and movies. And it's not as easy as you think. In no means am I being negative towards other majors, just to spread the word that although you might think we don't work hard, we most definitely do.
Going to a school where the majority of people are studing Health Sciences or Nursing is awesome and I admire the fact that you had to take Bio and Anatomy, God bless I could never, but I work just as hard as you do. I hate hearing, "Oh your a Communications major your life is so easy." Yes, I'll admit I haven't taken a test in 2 years, but instead I have had projects, papers, and presentations all due on the same day. Sometimes I miss having to study for a test or quiz.
What most people don't understand is that in some cases, your success in a class is determined by your creativity. Classes based on creating short films and movies or photojournalism require you constantly think out of the box and create new, different content. Other classes make you put yourself out there, making you do things out of your comfort zone. At some point at least one of your classes a semester will make you give a presentation. Now if your anything like me, that word makes your cringe and highly consider dropping the class right then and there even if it's in the middle of the semester. Instead, you decide to spend hours perfecting it and kill the presentation in front of the class. That moment, when the presentation is over it feels just as good as knowing you killed that Biology exam.
We choose a major based on personal preferences, obviously. I choose to go down this path because writing is something that I love to do. If I didn't have that passion I wouldn't be writing this article right now. I am passionate about what I am doing in school right now and for someone to tell me that what I'm doing isn't even that hard is a slap in the face, not only to me but to every single student and teacher that share in the same passion. We all have aspirations for ourselves and none of that comes easy. I'm proud to be a Communications major and to surround myself with some of the most hardworking people that I have ever met.
