Verbal communication is a staple of how humans interact with each other. What most people don't realize however is that nonverbal cues and body language we regular send out can dictate how our conversations go and who we are as people just as much as verbal communication can.
Unknowingly lots of the nonverbal communication we use comes from influences in our culture. Starting from a young age we are taught by our peers and the media what we should and should not do. Not like in an illuminati mind control sort of way but more of a we have developed a culture of conformity where doing things against the norm is punished and looked down upon type of way ya feel. Although I can only speak about Americanized culture and the affect is has more so than the world since culture varies depending where you are. In America recently there has definitely been a shift to more acceptance of actions against the norm although there is still progress to be made.
We are gaining self-awareness about the culture we live in and the way we communicate. That self-awareness can help be a catalyst to flipping the script and allowing people to communicate freely whatever way feels natural to them without the outside influence dictating how a person should communicate.
The reason I bring this up is because communication, how we talk and how we act is basically everything. That and the way we think and feel is what makes us who we are. We shouldn’t live in a society where our mannerisms and our forms of communication are dictated by anyone other than ourselves. The way we communicate isn't embedded in human nature its a constantly developing process that allows us to freely express who we are and how we feel.
