Yes, I am a Communication major.

It's not an easy way out.

Yes, I am a Communication major.

While I can not deny it took me forever to figure out what I was going to major in throughout college, when I made the decision to become a communication major, I couldn't feel happier with my choice. This is the major that I felt I would do the best in and would enjoy the most. When I started telling people about my plans to study communication in college, the responses weren't quite what I had hoped.

"You're going to have a hard time getting a job with that degree."

"That's an easy major, you will never have homework."

"You should switch out of that major by your sophomore year."

and my personal favorite, "What are your tests on, how to write a blog?"

I never thought of my major as a competition compared to others of how difficult or how much work I would have to do. I always just thought of it as something that I truly wanted to pursue, and something that I knew I would love. As someone who is now halfway through their second semester of being a communication major, I can still say that I feel I have made the best decision in choosing what I would like to study. Being a communication major has made me realize the things that I love to do, like writing or analyzing media.

In my opinion, communication majors do not have an easy major. In order to excel in this field, you need to be passionate about what you do, and you truly do have to work hard in your studies. While our major may have a lot to do with things like blogs or social media, it covers so much more than that. The influences involved in the field of communication, the technology, and numerous other aspects all come in to play. As a communication major, we have to constantly keep up with what is going on in the world, which isn't an easy job.

As much as people talk down on this major, it is one that is important and needs to exist in order for our world to work the way it does today. One thing I have noticed being a communication major is how much the people in our field love what they do. Communication majors know what they want to do with their lives, and although this major has been given a name of "an easy way out," with the hard work and dedication I have seen so far, I know that our success will prove to anyone who has doubted us that they are wrong.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
