You always see and hear people complaining about how awful it is having a common name. When I was younger, I couldn't have agreed more. I always used alternate spellings on my homework —Meghan, Meagan, Meaghan, Meagen, Megyn because I wanted my name to be more unique. As an adult, I appreciate that my parents gave me a very common and popular name. While I might love my name, it did come with its struggles.
1. When there are 3 other people with your first name in your class of 25
While scheduling, they must have thought, "hey there are three of them, lets all stick them in this Spanish class."
2. You will always have the first letter of your last name attached
You will never be just Megan, it will always be Megan S. Megan G. But the real struggle is when there are multiple people with the same first name and first initial of the last name. Then what?
3. You will always have a number attached to your name
I will not be defined by a number!
4. You're given a nickname against your will to differentiate you from others
^^^^they say it all
5. When you can never, ever get your social media handle as your name
Like really tho.
6. The first thing that pops up on Google is definitely not you
Try it out, you probably won't be shocked that you aren't in any images until page 14.
7. You're original and your name just does not reflect your uniqueness
Trying to be as unique as Luna, and failing with my common name.8. You never know if someone is yelling for you or just another person with the same name
Seriously.
9. You can never get an email address that resembles your name whatsoever
Because yourname@gmail.com is already taken.
10. People assume you share all the traits of a fictional character
Which unfortunately in my case, is the one that always gets sh*t on.
11. Or celebs who ruin your good name!
There is always the one celeb who ruined your name.
