Dealing with curly hair can be such a pain, but luckily there are ways to properly handle it! Check out these 10 commandments f you want to have beautiful, bouncy curls for the rest of your days!

1. First things first, you have to know your hair type

There's different ways to maintain your hair and it all depends on what your curl type is. And if you don't know what it is, here's a quiz for you to take!

2. NEVER comb your hair with a brush.

BANISH your brush. A brush can cause so much damage to your hair, so opt to use a comb instead!

3. Never comb your hair when it's dry.

Combing dry, curly hair will lead to breakage and split ends. It will also lead your hair to become a frizz ball, so only comb your hair when it's wet!

4. Shampoo less--or better yet--not at all.

Apparently a lot of shampoos use sodium lauryl sulfate. This ingredient is way too harsh for curls and can often lead hair to be dry and frizzy. This is also why so many people tell you to not wash your hair everyday and opt for every other day--the more you know!

5. Dry your hair with a t-shirt as opposed to a towel.

Towels with terry-cloth textures can leave curls in a state of frizz by absorbing too much moisture and it can manhandle the cuticles. Using a t-shirt made out of mostly cotton will retain moisture and keep your curls bouncy.

6. If you're going to blow dry your hair, you must use a diffuser.

My life changed when I got my first diffuser because you can blow dry your hair without having it frizz. A diffuser won't disrupt your curl pattern when you're drying you hair and it is truly something you must have.

7. When you go to get your hair cut, ask for your stylist to cut it dry.

I know, this makes me sad too. My favorite part about getting my hair cut is having it washed, but, one day I went in to get it cut and my hair got cut insanely short because your curly hair at its wet length is not the same as its dry length. Curly hair coils and will look shorter when it dries, so having a dry cut will eliminate any surprises.

8. Try not to switch around from product to product.

Once you find a product that works well for your curl type, try to stay loyal to that brand. It's the same concept that people use for face washes--you want to use the same face wash for a while because your face gets used to the ingredients in it and you won't break out. This rule definitely applies to curly hair as well!

9. Purchase a satin pillowcase.

Personally, I've never tried this one. But I've heard great things about it so it's definitely always worth a shot! Satin pillowcases won't cause your hair to frizz or fall flat over night, so this sounds like a great investment!

10. And finally, get your hair trimmed every 6-8 weeks.

If you want healthy looking hair, the first step is to making sure that it actually is by getting it trimmed and layered every 6-8 weeks. It'll curl and look better!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
