The sounds of the crowd roar from below the press box as the Pfeiffer Pfalcons score yet another goal. I had a bird's eye view from this vantage point I have grown accustomed too. It is amazing to see the difference a year can make; this time last year I was a spectator at these games, this year I have been working these games. I do have to say, though, this year has been more memorable for me due to the opportunities I have had working these events as this team has succeeded.
It was a soccer game, after all, that led to me falling in love with college athletics as much as I have. I have found myself at most games when I have had to work the live-stream, with one hand covering my mouth to keep myself from cheering or making comments about the game. This year, working behind the scenes at each game has overall has given me a better understanding of the game as well. It is hard to believe that it is the end of season already, so on that note, here are some stats from the season for the team as a whole.
This season the team has a record of 17-2, or 17 wins and went undefeated in conference play. The two teams they lost to were Lynn and Tusculum. Lynn was the 2014 NCAA Champions for Division 2 and won 2-1, Tusculum won 3-2 after going into overtime when they played Pfeiffer. The team also is currently ranked number one in our conference and is set to play in the Conference Championship on Saturday, November 5th against Limestone. The road to the Conference Championship comes after winning against Barton on Halloween night 7-1 and another win against Lees-McRae 5-0. The team also has 89 goals on the season as well averaging 4.68 goals a game.
Men's soccer is in a time of transition though as there is 16 graduating seniors this year, one of them being Santi Moar who was the senior feature for my series Why is Pfeiffer Unique. As the season is winding down to an end the All conference teams are being announced and we had ten members of our team in all receive honors of being on an all-conference team.
On first team all-conference: Nathan Regis, Dani and Jaime Siaj,, Martim Galvao, Jorge Buzzo, Tomas Correa, and Santi Moar.
On second team all-conference: Cristobal Allendes and Juan Sanchez. And on third team all-conference Roberto Soares.
This team never ceases to amaze me on and off the field, I can not wait to see what Saturday and beyond holds for this team along with the seniors as they graduate.
