Coming Soon To Atlanta

Atlanta just keeps getting better and better.

It seems like almost every week Atlanta announces another new project in the works that won't appear for a few years. You might groan and moan about it because the first thought is "traffic." Yeah, Atlanta traffic is pretty bad but in all honesty nothing can be done about traffic. Face it, Georgia drivers are the worst. Traffic just means that Atlanta is expanding and growing which ultimately means new ideas are being created to make the city even better. Trust me, you might not be able to visualize it now but these are some pretty exciting developments happening in Atlanta. It's going to make the city even better.

1. SkyTower Atlanta

Now you might be thinking, "What is this tower thing?" Well, it's going to be the first ever vertical thrill ride in a major city. It will be 225 feet tall with three different rides, yes...I said three. The first ride will be SkyTwist which will take 20 riders from the street-level to the top of the tower in a glass gondola that rotates. Cool, right? Well that's not all. The second ride will be called SkyDrop and you guessed it correctly, you drop 225 feet in the air. The final ride will be called the SkyShot which will sling riders over 200 feet in the air. Don't worry, this is all expected to be here sometime in Summer 2016 right near Centennial Olympic Park.

2. Suntrust Pier 225

Look at that face. Isn't it absolutely adorable?! Georgia Aquarium rescued two Sea Lion pups from the California coast where they joined four more Sea Lions that were deemed unable to be released back into the wild. The Sea Lions will help educate the public about the dangers the animals face in the oceans including a dwindling food supply. Get excited because the exhibit just opened!!

3. SunTrust Park

It's almost here. Well..sort of. One more season at Turner Field and then in 2017, the Braves say hello to their new home, SunTrust Park. I know it's a pain right now and the impending doom of traffic freaks all of us out but it's the Braves and it's going to be awesome. Not to mention they are going to put a Zip-Line in the park and make it super family friendly! 2017 needs to get here now.

4. Atlanta United FC

The most exciting news yet! This will be the 22nd MLS team and will make their home at the new fancy Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Another exciting Atlanta team to support in 2017..let's just hope they make it a great first season. #ATLUTD

5. Mercedes-Benz Stadium

Of course it doesn't have a Zip-Line in it but its exterior look makes up for that. Like look how awesome the stadium is going to be! Retractable roof and over 700 concession points. It's going to look pretty awesome with the Falcons and Atlanta United playing in it. 2017, where you at?

6. Fernbank Expansion

Just in time for Summer 2016, Fernbank will have this glorious beauty opened to the public. A 75 acre expansion, the new area will offer vantage points high in the trees, winding footpaths and trails, dramatic tree pods, sensory stations, elevated adventure nets, water cycle activities and more. Another cool part of this expansion is that there is increased access to Fernbank Forest, one of the largest old-growth urban forests.

7. Porsche Experience Center

Fine. You caught me. I just really wanted to profess my love for Porsche and campaign to be able to ride in or drive one. In honestly though, the Porsche Experience Center did just open up during the summer so it is a relatively new development to Atlanta. This is pretty much a dream right here. Basically you can eat at the center either at the cafe or make reservations at the restaurant and watch all the pretty little Porsches race around the track. Now if you want to drive one of the cars, you have to be 21 and over, have a valid license and pay some Benjamins to feel the speed. The lowest price starts off at $300 and you get about 1.5 hours of driving in the Porsche with a professional giving you tips. Now that sounds like a lovely day to me.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
