I recently had the opportunity to attend the seventh annual VidCon in Anaheim, Calif. Just a week before that, I attended Denver Comic Con. This is the first chance I have had to go to conventions like this. These conventions were both phenomenal experiences beyond anything I had hoped for. At both conventions, the celebrity appearances, as well as the huge number of fans that attended made them an unforgettable experience.
Comic Con.
I went to two days of the Comic Con that was held here in Denver. In my opinion, the coolest part of the convention was seeing all the Cosplay costumes. I ran into the evil stepsisters from Cinderella, Scrat from Ice Age, Captain Hook, A Dalek, and even BB8. I had the chance to step out of the TARDIS.
What is also really unique about these conventions is all the celebrities that make appearances. They have an exposition hall where you can get photos and autographs. Also in the exposition hall are rows upon rows of booths. Seeing all the pieces created by fans just like me was so neat. I came home with so many stickers, and posters.
The panels, which were happening all day long, were awesome. They ranged from Q&As to How To Instructions on various topics. I chose to attend mostly the Q&As, and was able to see John Barrowman, Alex Kingston, Jenna Coleman, Cary Elwes and more. It was neat to be able to ask these actors questions, and hear behind the scenes information about their experiences on our favorite shows.
VidCon
I had a blast when I went to the seventh annual VidCon in Anaheim. It was a three- day convention for anything and everything YouTube. People come from all over the world for this convention. Many YouTubers come from the UK, and I met viewers who came as far as Australia for the experience.
Many aspects of Comic Con were similar to VidCon. There was an exposition hall, panels, meet and greets, interviews.
The exposition hall had a few booths selling merchandise, but there were many more where you could participate in games and activities. There was one where you could give a few American Ninja Warrior obstacles a go. Another where you could make music using an app and a bunch of M&Ms. Yet another where you could participate in an intense game of truth or dare.
They had panels for
viewers, creators, and industry members. Panels were on a variety of topics,
from the process of working on a book, to coming up with video ideas, to
launches of new projects. I was able to meet Sawyer Hartman and Jim Chapman in person. I saw many of my favorite creators get interviewed.
One thing that VidCon had that Comic Con didn't was a variety show every day where creators would make appearances and do skits, sing, do challenges, perform.
Both of these conventions were amazing, and I am so glad that I had the opportunity to attend them. I vlogged my experiences at VidCon on my YouTube Channel, if you are interested in watching. Click here.
