With the rise of podcasts and its entrance into mainstream culture, comedic content has become undoubtedly prolific. Through podcasts, comedians and non-comedians alike can create entertainment for many audiences. However, because of its accessibility, there is not enough time to sift through everything that is out there. So, if you’re looking to be entertained but don’t know where to start, here are four comedy podcasts that I would recommend.
1. If I Were You
This podcast is an advice podcast hosted by Amir Blumenfeld and Jake Hurwitz (you may know them from their sketch creating days). People send in their questions and quandaries, and Jake and Amir try their best to solve them. The bits and jokes and character improvisation are endless, and it never fails to lift me up from a somber mood.
Best Episodes: Episode 1: Starbucks, Episode 73: Horoscope, Episode 100: Family Fiction, Episode 163: Ugly Hot
2. Call Chelsea Peretti
This podcast is an experience. You don’t even have to know of Chelsea to enjoy this. The basic premise of the podcast is that people call in with topics and stories relating to given topics of the day and Chelsea either has a conversation with them or hangs up on them. From sound effects to rants about silverfish, this podcast consisting of complete silliness has everything you ever needed and more.
Best Episodes: Episode 1: Did You Get My Letter, Episode 30: I.F.F, Episode 33: Silverfish Dementia, Episode 57: Roach Infestations and Actual Murder
3. The Great Debates
I haven’t been keeping up with this podcast, but it’s a good listen. Steve Hely and Dave King with moderator Dan Medina debate the issues of the day without any preparation. The debates range variously from discussions about June vs. July to the Constitution.
Best Episodes:Episode 51: There Are Fewer Than 90 Gay Dentists in Nebraska, Episode 61: The Leaning Tower of Pisa is a Good Tower, Episode 76: Keanu Reeves Is A Great Actor
4. Comedy Bang Bang
This is the comedy podcast that everybody knows of. Admittedly, it’s not always funny, and I only like to listen to it when I know the guests and/or the characters that they’ll be doing. However, it is a staple, and there are episodes that I can listen to over and over again without getting tired of them.
