youvisit.com

Beginning Monday October 31st, the annual Writers' Week at UNCW kicks off with a Fiction Craft Talk with Clare Beams. The week long series of events put on by the Creative Writing Department has brought in excellent writers, publishers, and alumni for this year. It's expected to be the best year yet! The full schedule and locations can be found here.

As one of the two undergrads along with many MFA students who helped organize this week, I can honestly say it's going to be great. I encourage everyone to join if they have questions about writing, the publishing world, want to hear a good reading and so much more. Did I mention they are free events? Every event is open to the public; you don't have to be a UNCW student to come!

Our line up of writers includes award winners Mei Fong, Chinelo Okparanta, Michael Thomas, Jeffery Thomson and others! This diverse group of authors have something to share with everyone. We also have top publishing professionals coming such as Dawn Davis (vice president and publisher of her own imprint 37 Ink), Kirby Kim (a literary agent representing all kinds of authors), and Brian Perrin (a director for marketing at HarperCollins imprints). In addition, we are also hosting alumni! These alumnus have gone on to do big things after graduation, some come to some of their events and enlighten us on what's like to have a Creative Writing degree! We also have readings from faculty and students (MFA and BFA) so come out to support your fellow Seahawks.

It doesn't matter if you're not a creative writing student, or a UNCW student at all. If you have any interest in hearing amazing writers speak, classmates and faculty give readings or learning about the craft of writing, come join us starting Monday at ten a.m.! And don't forget to follow @UNCWCRW on Instagram and Twitter for live updates! Can't wait to see you this #WritersWeek2016.

The Battle Between College And My Mental Health

College isn't easy, and I'm afraid I'm not going to make it at the rate my mental health is going.

Everyone tells you that college is hard, but they fail to explain why. Sure, classes are hard. Math sucks, and political science can be so boring. But that's not even what's killing me about college. What's killing me about college is my deterioating mental health.

As a college student, I feel as if people don't understand just how exhausted I, and fellow college students are. We have so many things going on, all the time, and sometimes it's hard to explain to people how we feel. Personally...I'm tired. I'm sad. And I'm struggling every single day with my emotions. But the thing is, it hasn't always been this way. I haven't always hated school, so why am I feeling like this now?

For the average 20-something, life moves pretty fast. You’ve got classes, friends, relationships, jobs, family, and whatever else we overcommit ourselves with. I probably should have learned to say no to adding more to my schedule a long time ago, but instead here are 11 things that can be more helpful than coffee.

Blair Waldorf

Resting b***h face. Defined as a person, usually a girl, who naturally looks mean when her face is expressionless, without meaning to. Many of you suffer from this "condition." You are commonly asked what's wrong, when nothing is. What people don't know is that is just your facial expression. Here are some things they wish you knew.
