Come Party at Pete's

11

Are you looking for a new place to party? Are you sick of those long lines to get into the bar? Tired of terrible bartenders who can’t even make the simplest of cocktails and shots? Well I was…and I found a solution that might be one of the best bars in Fort Worth. I was sick of walking into the possibly asbestos-infested hell hole we call "The Cellar" and sick of waiting for 30 minutes outside The Aardvark only to find myself waiting another 30 minutes to get a drink. I won’t even mention the always name changing bar currently known as Science Lab, and as a junior, the freshman grind session at The Bottom has little to no appeal to me. So what bar has saved me from these weak excuses for evening entertainment? The answer to my prayer is the one and only Pete’s Dueling Piano Bar.

Pete’s is downtown on the corner of Houston and 6th street. There is a cover charge at the door, but for the great entertainment, $8 is not too much to ask. Bring a group of your favorite girls and guys and get ready to clap hard and sing loud because Pete’s Dueling Piano Bar is a hell of a show. Two grand pianos on stage play your favorite songs from “Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey to “It Wasn’t Me” by Shaggy. If you're not satisfied with the song choice (which is virtually impossible), as long as you have a couple dollar bills you can write just about any song title on a napkin and the pianists will play it.

Want some insight on why Pete’s is better than the average bar around the TCU campus? Well my friends, you’re in luck. I happen to be a very loyal customer to Pete’s and therefore have a list of reasons why this bar is superior in every way. Whether you’re just heading out on a Friday night after the typical pregame at your buds house or you’re finishing up dinner with your newest beau or lady friend, Pete’s lively entertainment offers a perfect environment for a fun filled evening. And the music is so loud that you’ll have plenty of opportunities to get up close and personal with your hot date. Along with their dance moves, you’ll be able to check out their singing abilities which, let's face it, are not always Beyonce status. As an added bonus there are actually tables and chairs at this bar, which means once you’ve found that person of interest you’ll be able to converse with them in more intimate setting than standing shoulder to shoulder in a crowd of people at typical bar near campus.

Listen to me when I say don’t be afraid of this downtown bar. It’s true that Pete’s caters to an older crowd, but listen to me when I say that plenty of TCU students will be dropping cash into the bowl to hear our beloved fight song played by these talented pianists. So get your self dressed up to get messed up, grab a girl, grab a guy, whatever you fancy, and get yourself to Pete’s as soon as possible to have a great time singing and dancing to the best songs music has to offer.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
