Come One, Come Fall

"Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall." — F. Scott Fitzgerald

Around this time every year, I find myself daydreaming of fall days that are just beyond the last scorching grip of summer. Like many others who share fall as a favorite season, I can hardly resist the temptation to wish the weather and leaves were turning now. Aside from just warmer drinks and cooler weather, fall offers me so much more opportunity. I find myself to be, overall, just more happy during this season and here are a few reasons why.

1. Motivation.

Coming off a long and relaxing (at least brain-wise) summer break, I always find myself getting very excited for the upcoming semester. School supplies shopping has always been an annual favorite of mine, along with the opportunity to sort of reorganize my life and schedule for the school year, as I pack everything into bins to take to school. During this time I always ask myself "What worked and what didn't work last year?" and I move on from there with my plans. Entering the school year, I have so much more energy and motivation to get things done during this time of the year because I am not burnt out from stress or work.

2. Better wardrobing.

All right, I can't be the only one who believes this to be true. Yes, I may be a little biased as a retail sales associate, but I have always thought fall clothing was much cuter than summer styles. Finally, you can wear that jean jacket that has been hanging so sadly in your closet, or layer your favorite sweaters for the weekend. Oh, and of course we can't forget boots. Probably one of my favorite things about this season is that I finally get to break out my riding boots that have been calling my name since I put them away last February.

3. Exercise.

Finally, with the promise of fall weather in the air, you can go on a run without feeling like someone is squeezing your lungs. This summer alone, the humidity has been just awful and I find it harder to motivate myself to exercise when I know as soon as I step outside, I am instantly dripping in sweat and breathing in hot air. But a nice jog or bike ride along trails in the fall is not only more refreshing, but also more relaxing and stress-relieving with all of the changing scenery and beautiful colors of the turning leaves.

4. Hair holds a style.

With the humidity replaced by a crisp breeze, fall offers (at least for girls) better hair days. This summer, I straighten my hair and walk outside only to have it frizz and grow around me. But with cooler weather, our curls and straight hair should hold their shape much, much better.

5. Activities.

Fall has been my favorite for many reasons, but I think the activities this season offers is No. 1. Apple and pumpkin picking, hayrides, haunted houses, corn mazes, festivals and of course the promise of the upcoming holiday season seems to put everyone in a much happier mood. I know I'm much more pleasant during this time of year!

6. Food and football.

Because who doesn't enjoy a tailgate party, some pumpkin pie and apple cider, and watching America's favorite sport?

Fall, at least in my life, is much busier than the spring and because of that time goes extra fast. I like being on-the-go, always having something to do and something to look forward to doing. So come soon fall! I will be (not so) patiently waiting.

Creating your schedule for the upcoming semester can be an exciting process. You have the control to decide if you want to have class two-days a week or five-days a week. You get to check things off of your requirement checklist. It's an opportunity for a fresh start with new classes (which you tell yourself you'll never skip.) This process, which always starts out so optimistic, can get frustrating really quickly. Here are 25 thoughts you have when registering for classes.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
