Colter Wall hails from Saskatchewan, Canada and is a mere 21 years old, but don't let his age fool you. The heart and soul of folk country runs through his veins. His weathered voice adds something amazing to his music, something that most people don't have. Colter said his career really started when he was "pretending to be in college." He recorded a couple songs on a laptop and started pushing them locally. Soon enough, he was playing shows and getting noticed.
Colter's debut, full length album is available for pre-order now and I recommend that everyone go pre-order their own copy to enjoy tracks like his current singles: Motorcycle, Codeine Dream, and Thirteen Silver Dollars. Each song has a slightly different vibe to it so that you can hear the range of talent that this man truly has. At such a young age he is writing and recording songs that seem to be written by someone much older than he is.
I first saw Colter Wall when I went to a Shooter Jennings concert with my dad on April 1, 2016. Over the weekend of April 21-April 23 of 2017, I saw Colter twice while he was on tour with Cody Jinks and Ward Davis. The difference between these shows was absolutely astounding. The first show, it was damn near impossible to hear Colter over everyone talking in the crowd, but when I saw him this year, it was the exact opposite. He had plenty of fans singing along and cheering for him. It was amazing from my perspective to see such a difference considering I liked him so much after the first show that I ran straight to the merchandise booth after his set to buy a CD.
He is just one of the many artists that prove you should support those artists who aren't played on the radio. Colter has come a long way and seems to have a bright future ahead of him. He's a young gun in the business which gives him plenty of time to go out and show the world the artist he truly is. I hope to see success in his future as he is bringing folk country back into the spotlight in an era that doesn't see much of this genre.
