It's week three of writing for the Odyssey and I've enjoyed my experience. However, one of my fans or critic-- it's really up in the air-- challenged me to write an article without using gifs in a list. She says it's cheating. This is my attempt to write a "non-cheating" article.
I was scrolling through my daily dose of social media when a video streaked across the screen and caught my eye. The title read, "Color Psychology" and so I clicked play. Being a former film studies major and a current psychology student there really wasn't a way to say no. If you want to watch the clip it's here: http://bit.ly/ColorPsychologyOdyssey
Watching the video nurtured the idea of incorporating this type of emotion into my daily wardrobe. An ongoing social experiment in a sense. The thing is nearly everyone already does this. Intentional or not, a decision is made to dress yourself with whatever it is you go out in that day. This reflects the type of person's shoes you want to travel in that day. If you want to travel as an athletic scrub in sweats and a hoodie, you can. A college frat boy then look no further as a backward cap will do the trick. You can even try to fit, whatever that means, with a jeans and a t-shirt.
The point I'm trying to make isn't that we have the freedom to be whoever we want and dress the way we chose. A majority of the population figure this out pretty young. The point here is that we need to look at the people around us without judgment. Accept them for who they are. The person sitting next to you doing their homework, in front of you standing in line, or behind you sitting on the bus asked themselves, "What am I going to wear today?" Yet, the real question was, "How will wearing this make me feel?" If you don't believe me go up to the person in sweats and a hoodie and tell them they look comfortable. Chances are that's what they were aiming for. Just like if you were to compliment a girl on her make-up. Believe me, I have two sisters and putting that on is no easy task. It takes them hours (love you guys). I leave you with this, when you get dressed in the morning who are you really dressing for?
