Have you been upset with the recent releases of the new bubble gum hip hop that's been coming out? You're not alone and it might be a while before we see another artist like MF Doom, and Kendrick Lamar seems to be pretty late with J. Cole on that joint album we were promised back in February. However, there has been an answering to some people's prayers. While The Life of Pablo and Views seem to be making all the hype in music lately, another artist dropped his mixtape and streamed it exclusively with Apple Music for a limited time.
Chance The Rapper has released his third solo mixtape, dubbed "Coloring Book," and listening to it for the past week, we could just say that it's most certainly Grammy worthy. With a collection of 14 songs, each song so much different than the next, he featured a variety of artists like Kanye West, Ty Dolla Sign, Saba and much more. Chance flexed his music making abilities and really proved to be West's best prodigy. He has a song for every mood and occasion. Songs ranging from "Blessings," to "Smoke Breaks" and "Not Doing the Same Drugs Anymore," this mixtape is Chance's best musical project to date.
Unfortunately, due to current Grammy rules, they are not allowing for exclusive album streams to count toward nominations. But, there has been a petition with a little more than 31,000 signatures (as of right now) that may change the rules in place to allow for Coloring Book to become nominated for a Grammy even though it is only being streamed! The requirement is 35,000 and you can help change history and help the Grammy's evolve, like the music they are attempting to nominate, by signing the online petition here.
With all the support from fans (literally fans on Twitter are tweeting EVERY LYRIC from the album), you can tell that Chance's influence on music and culture is changing and he has the best vision for the path that music may be taking. Will we ever see another album like MadVillainNY? Will we ever have a better song than Hypnotize by Notorious B.I.G.? That person may still be growing their talents, but for now, Chance is definitely exploiting his talents to the best of his ability and he deserves a "chance" in history to earn a Grammy for the hard work he put into this masterpiece of a project.
