Colors make life more enjoyable and in the winter, there is not much color around us as everything has died and is covered either in snow or there is overcast from the gloomy sky.
Color is lost, but the colors we wear are what keep things interesting. When I was younger my mother and I would always set a date in the fall to go out and purchase a coat for the winter. This day was always filled with dread as we would argue in every store we went in about what coat was functional and what coat was fun and fashionable. There never was a compromise. At the end of the day I would just give up and agree to whichever coat she wanted to buy for me.
As I got older and I could choose my own jackets for the winter season, I would go to my local thrift store as these stores were more catered to my budget and have a relaxing day of filing through second hand coats that were interesting and colorful for the freezing temperatures heading my way. I love how old styles are coming back into fashion and I think as a New Yorker that it is important to be fashionable as well as practical with one's outerwear.
For this winter, I think the colors that are fun spirited and evoke emotion are in, such as; turquoise, aqua blue, fuchsia, canary yellow, burnt orange, deep green, lilac, and bright red. Plaid, animal print, and fuzzy textures are also a well sought-after style for this season. This trend of interesting colors and prints give character to an outfit and when wearing outerwear that is all one can see when going from point a to point b in the tundra temperatures.
