I Colored My Hair Purple so You Don't Have Too

I was asked if I was a mermaid at Noodles and Company and that's all that matters.

Once upon a time. I made a life choice. And I colored my hair purple. Not just any purple. Like PURPLE.

Let me tell you. It was great. I had an awesome time living life as if I was someone else. Tricky Nikki was in full swing during this time in my life. However, there are a few things your dear friend would love to inform you of, so on the occasion, you want to change your outlook on life for a period of time.

1. COLOR

The first step. Obviously. Figuring out what color fits and suits you best is something that needs to be taken into serious consideration. It's a big deal. A REAL big deal. I mean, nothing is worse than if you're a cool tone, and you decide to go orange. Your aura will be all sorts of thrown off.

Plus if you hate it, you're kinda eff'ed...

2. Stylist

I know how much we all love box dye (kidding). But seriously folks. If you're going to do any type of coloring of the hair, protect it and be SMART. Go to a trusted stylist, or make sure you read all the reviews of who it is that you're seeing. When I colored mine, it was crazy how healthy it still was due to going to a professional, whereas so many box dye's totally and completely kill your hair.

3. Other People

Be prepared for people to look at you. Granted as much as I literally could not possibly care less with how others perceive me. But it's still something you should take into account. If you're someone who doesn't like attention, just be cautious

4. Up Keep

Now. This is the hard part. In my case it was hard. My hair is naturally a very dark brown. So when I went bright purple we bleached my head. TWICE. Then put purple on top of that. When it came to two weeks after the coloring process, my hair began to really grow to be very brassy on the top, and not fade. However, most of the time the color will fade very fast. Within those two weeks after the original color, I would have needed to continue to color it the same purple on the top of my head. Not the worst thing. But being a lil college kid, it's not the cheapest thing in the world to keep up with.

5. Color on Color

Yikes. Let me tell you. It is hard. After my little fun time of trying a fun and bright color, I needed to go back to dark. The damage is now minimal and the bleach only slightly shows through sometimes. But jeez, it is not easy to leave behind the traces the one and only Tricky Nikki.

6. Who Really Cares

HONESTLY. DO YOU. You need to do what makes you happy. I think you need to do whatever you want. Who cares if you have blue or orange hair. I personally think everyone should experience this at least once in your life.

7. New Life

Be prepared for the most important information I'm about to give you. And this is a big one...

Everything you own is about to be that color. Your pillow. Your clothes. Your phone. Nails. Skin. Shower. Bed. Boyfriend. Girlfriend. Everything is about to change. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Once again, this little piece of advice is brought to you by my unpopular opinion. You're welcome.

xoxo

Nikki.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
