In May of 2016, I decided to audition for color guard at my new high school. I walked in with a timid look in my eyes; I was terrified. I walked into the gym and sat down and waited for further instructions. I later met up with one of my friends from my school. Later on, we all sat in a circle and introduced ourselves. We said our name, age, and grade. We then walked and picked up a flag. At this moment I fell in love. It was work that was nearly impossible for me to do at the time. I got help from one of the older vets and it could just not click. By the end of the audition, I was very upset and scared of my approval or denial. I was accepted and a part of the 2016 fall guard team. I went home and practiced it many many times till suddenly it just came to mind. June came and we had our first of many camps. I didn't know anyone, but here I was. I walked in and it was one of my favorite memories. I met many friends, and the instructor was pretty cool. I still remember asking everyone if a rehearsal from 8-3 was way too many hours, and they said it's too little. Later on during Pre-Band camp, the band arrived. Although we didn't spend much time with them it was fun to see them. We started learning parts of our show and it was so much fun. The following week band camp rolled in. We were out in 90-degree weather and I could not handle it. I cried multiple times. I was hot and I was thinking why do I even do this. Why did I want to do guard? The first week of the school year was the first week of rehearsals. After school for three hours, we would be outside every day. Those were the days I needed the most. Instead of doing homework, I did guard. I do not regret any of it. The first Friday pulled in and it was one of the best nights of my life. We did so many stand tunes and finally my first halftime performance. I am happy to say I rocked it! Week after week, month after month, I was there. The season came to an end and that's when I got it: he new packet for winter guard. I got to the auditions, and that's when we heard our former instructor left and we had two new instructors and they are the best so far. The season went well and yesterday was our last competition, Sapa. I was nervous especially since I cried right before we were about to perform. We performed and gave it are all and I was proud. The ending result were amazing and I am more than happy to say I was a part of this team. I am writing this to let everyone know I have fallen in love with this sport and I would never go back. Thank you for making this a second home. Thank you for this. Thank you color guard.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
