If you are looking for ideas on what to get your college kids this year, then this is the guide you need. I know that half the time we tell you we need clothes, money, or we simply don't know. Trust me, after the semester we have just finished we really just want endless sleep and Netflix.
Starbucks Gift Card
This is huge for us college kids. I can't explain the amount of students that have already started to live in our Jackson Library and the new Starbucks lounge. This is not a waste because we can get anything with the card. Personally I like their tea over their coffee so instead of someone buying the cute coffee basket from Walmart, I vote for the plastic card.
Socks
Nothing is better than your laptop, Netflix and some comfy socks when you have to study or write that darn paper you have been putting off. I tend to chill in the room with sweats and an oversize shirt or sweater but if my feet are cold then I'm freezing. With the comfy socks not only am I toasty warm but whenever I go into the kitchen I can slip and slide across the floor with ease.
Pens/Pencils
Y'all may think I am crazy for saying this but I seriously can't explain what happens to my pens. At the beginning of the semester I have plenty but by the middle I'm lucky if I have one on hand for that pop quiz. I don't know where they go but it is a struggle to have a pen that has enough ink to finish a set of notes.
Note Cards
White and colorful ones, please. They may cost under a dollar but ask a nursing major, there is nothing better than free note cards. Everyone will be needing these by the time finals roll around so maybe you can give these a little early to kick off the holiday spirit.
A Pet
These days asking my mom for a puppy is like asking for a pony when I was younger. I get an eye roll and a change of the conversation. I can't really blame her reaction since we aren't allowed to have pets other than a fish in the dorms so a pup is really unrealistic. However, I will say that having a pet, whether it be a puppy or a cat, is a huge stress reliever and would make a great present for the overwhelmed college kid.
Other great ideas are things like a speaker for the shower, plenty of candy, food gift cards, make-up, razors, chap sticks, cologne/perfume, and as always money and other surprises.
