Coming From A Freshman, College Is Much More Different Than High School

It's day one of classes and I can already say that this is much, much different than the high school I went to. I assume that college is much different than most high schools. College is a whole new reality. You have to take on your own responsibilities and the faculty and teachers hold you accountable for it.

Classes are set up differently in college than they are in high school. A few classes a day, a few days a week. However, the professors and teachers hold you up to the standards of adults. They expect you to be prepared and ready and they expect you to act like you belong in college.

Of course, they are willing to help if you need it, but they expect you to do the work. They don't baby you or allow you to slack off just because you don't feel like doing something. They expect you to do it simply because it's your future in your hands, not theirs. They don't control your future, you do. It's up to you how seriously you're going to take things in order to get to where you want to be in life.

Most people have a class every other day, so you have time to do that work before you see them again in two days. This makes things feel less stressful, I think, unless you forget you have something to do and then you show up to class without an assignment, unprepared and ready to cry. It's just going to be important to keep track of your classes and the things you do in them in order to stay successful through college.

College also differs from high school because you can kinda go as you please. You can roam freely around the campus, you can eat when you're ready and you can chill and hangout between classes if you have breaks. I think this allows students to relax and not become anxious about the idea that they have to provide for themselves.

College and high school can be compared, but realistically, they are not even remotely the same. You get to choose the life you want. College is where your life begins. You happen now.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
