I was originally born in "sin" city, also known as Las Vegas, NV. I know, crazy, right? Moving from a huge city to nothing was a culture shock. I moved when I was almost 7 years old so I'm basically from good ole Statesboro, GA. Statesboro is known for its "famous" college Georgia Southern University. It's a small town where everybody knows everyone.
Every time you walk in the grocery store....
You always recognize somebody you know and immediately look down at your phone secretly hoping they didn't notice you because, you just rolled out of bed.
Growing up in a small town also means "small town drama."
Word travels in 0.1 seconds in any small town. If you don't know the current news about something happening in your town or drama about a person in your town you are immediately asked, "You really haven't heard about that yet?"
We young people make about 80 percent of the population.
That means a lot of bad driving and a lot of bad decisions.
If you're not tail gating in your cow girl boots...
OR your cute wedges at every home football game, you're probably a loser. Everyone goes to the games. It doesn't matter what age you are. Honestly, I couldn't care less about football games and tail gating, so I guess that makes me a loser- HA.
Win or lose "going out" after the game is a must.
All of the local bars are going to be packed after the game and everybody is going to be belligerently drunk and I hope you girls are into frat boys because that's basically 90 percent of the guys at the local bars. After the bars, everyone's going to be craving something greasy, so the line to eat anywhere at 2 am is going to be outrageous on the weekends so be prepared to WAIT.
Is she wearing pants?
Everywhere you go, you are constantly seeing girls wearing over sized frat T-shirts... Sometimes we even get asked if we are wearing pants because our shirts are so long.
I know a lot of people who were born and raised here and have lived in this little town all of their lives. People often get too comfortable living in a small town, but for me, it's time to move forward and on to bigger and better things.
