College As Told by "How I Met Your Mother"

The cast of HIMYM had a lot of good advice for college students.

Over nine seasons of How I Met Your Mother, Barney, Robin, Ted, Lily, and Marshall had some wisdom to impart to us all. And by "us," I specifically mean college students. Here are some of their best quotes and moments as applied to the university life.

1. During the first week of school, you asked this question (and "What are you majoring in?") a million times over.

"Do you live in a double?" "Oh my god, are your quadmates nice?" "You are so lucky you have a single!"

2. When your friends try to comfort you after a horrible calc test.

Yup. There's nothing left to do but wait, and then go to professor to beg to round your grade.

3. When your friends are begging you to go back to your dorms at 2am, but you want to stay out.

Ted knows what he's talking about: Nothing good happens after 2am. Yes, that includes studying. Go back to your room and just get some sleep.

4. This is exactly what you said after you found out that your 9am class got cancelled.

Nothing can bring you down! ... Except for the fact that you still have 10am physics lecture.

5. This is how everyone in the room reacted when your roommate yelled, "Midterm grades are up on Blackboard!"

Your internal monologue was going something along the lines of, "Ohmygodohmygod. Should I check? NO. Yes? Oh my god, I have to... but I can't. Oh my god."

6. And after you finally got up the courage to check your grades, you found out you passed chemistry.

The way Marshall felt after becoming an environmental lawyer couldn't come close to how good this feels.

7. When you realize that in college, it's actually okay to eat alone in the dining hall.

What...? It's socially acceptable to sit by yourself? After you got used to the idea, it was kinda nice, though. Having meals by yourself can be pretty relaxing, and you don't have to worry about trying to stuff your face and have a conversation at the same time.

8. When your academic counselor wants to know why you failed 3 of your algebra tests.

Have you tried to finish all those problems in 50 minutes? It's a lot of pressure, okay?!

9. Right after your teacher says, "I postponed the test to next week!", he says...

As if you needed a reminder. Since when has any college test ever been easy? Thanks for killing the vibe, prof.

10. When you had to stage an intervention for your friend who kept sleeping through all their first classes.

"We love you and care about you very much, which is why we're telling you that you have to start setting a second alarm."

11. When you ask your friend for interview advice.

Robin speaks to your soul. How do you even greet an interviewer? Can they tell your smile is fake? Oh my god, they definitelycan.

12. When you realize all of your senior friends are graduating.

NO. This is not okay. You cannot leave me here, especially without you!

13. God, you wish you had known this so much earlier:

Why didn't you realize this freshman year?! Staying in your room with Netflix and chips is hands down the best way to spend your Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. Preach, Ted.

14. When you finally work up the confidence to ask your professor a question in class, and they give you a super long response.

How could you not answer the question within those 10 minutes? If that's not bad enough, you're somehow even more confused than before.

15. When you want to get dinner, but your friends say they're busy working out.

How can they pass up food, especially to go exercise and get sweaty? You've literally been waiting for dinner since lunch ended at noon. Six hours is a long time to go without food!

16. And of course, Ted's there to remind you that you're supposed to take chances in college.

Ted's the best at reminding us that we're supposed to try new things and put ourselves out there. That's what college is for!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.

For many undergraduates across the nation, the home stretch has begun. Only one more semester remains in our undergraduate career. Oh, the places we will go! For the majority of college seniors, this is simultaneously the best and worst year out of the past four and here’s why.

1. The classes you are taking are actually difficult.

A schedule full of easy pottery throwing and film courses is merely a myth on the average campus. With all of those prerequisites for the upper-level courses and the never-ending battle you fight each year during registration for limited class seats, senior year brings with it the ability to register for the final courses you need to fulfill your major. Yet, these are not the easy entry level courses. These are the comprehensive, end of major, capstone courses designed to apply the knowledge from all your previous courses, usually in the form of an extensive research paper or engaged learning project. The upside is you actually probably really enjoy these classes but alas there is no room for slackers here.
