College As Told By Disney

College: It's the best of times and the worst of times.

College As Told By Disney
MetroLyrics

I am one of those crazy Disney people. My bed is full of Olaf and Minnie Mouse stuffed animals, and I am not ashamed.

College is stressful, tough at times, and a whole new world (No Aladdin pun intended!) As a true Disney lover, I have recently noticed that some parts of Disney films are so descriptive of the college life. Here they are!

1. Trying to stay awake during an 8 AM lecture is not the easiest thing to do, especially when you stayed up until 1 AM finishing up homework.

2. When everyone on your floor wakes up before you, and all you want to do is sleep.

3. Getting an email notification that you got a package is the best feeling in the world.

4. How it feels to pay for college:

5. Getting your first college exam handed back to you, realizing that you did a lot worse than you actually thought.

6. You zone out in class for 5 minutes, and then look up at the board. Was I really not paying attention for that long?

7. Your family always asks you, "Is the food good there?" No. N-O. It's horrible. No. Thank goodness there's a Chick-Fil-A on campus.

8. Since the food is not top-notch, you get way too excited when your parents send you baked goods in the mail. (My parents sent me chocolate covered strawberries-thanks Mom and Dad.)

9. At my school, we are not allowed to have candles in our dorm. So, you just have to hide them during room inspections.

10. When you wear sweatpants to class everyday, but one day you decide to dress up.

11. When you have that mid-semester break down, all you want to do is lay in your bed and cry (we've all done it before.)

12. Sitting in the lowest level math class, and the kid next to you doesn't know what mean, median, and mode are.

13. The horrible, dreadful, group projects. I mean, I don't need to get the same grade as someone who isn't contributing anything.

14. When the professor says, "Alright class, pop quiz. Clear your desks."

15. "What are you doing after graduation? Are you going to grad school? What are you gonna do with that degree? You know, you can't do that in the real world."

16. When that one annoying kid in class tries to argue with the professor.

17. Sitting in class like

18. When you hear someone say "Free food!"

19. When something terrible happens, but you have to act like it's nothing.

20. All the seats in the class you want next semester have not filled up (yet).

Most of these were a little cheesy, but I hope you giggled while reading! College can be crazy at times, so sometimes you need to sit back, eat some ice cream, and watch a Disney movie.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
