College As Told By Cristina Yang

Cristina makes us feel like we're not alone in our college struggles.

College As Told By Cristina Yang

If there's one thing I've learned from watching "Grey's Anatomy," it's that Cristina Yang definitely sums up every type of feeling that college students have in the course of a week. Although she doesn't seem like it, Cristina is one of the most relatable people on the show (and I really hope the rumors are true about her coming back in Season 13). I've learned so much from watching her be a kick-ass, hardcore cardio god, and she will always be my favorite character on "Grey's." So, as promised, here are the moments where I, and every other college student, can relate perfectly to the amazing Cristina Yang:

1. When you have so much homework to do, it's 3 a.m., and your life is falling apart.

2. When you're trying to figure out what to wear before you go out on a Saturday night.

3. When you unexpectedly run into one of your girls at a frat party.

3. Before you think the Freshman 15 can ever get to you.

4. When your huge lecture class of 200 people makes a group chat just to get through the semester.

5. When the people in your hall won't shut up or turn off their music when you're trying to sleep (not to mention the fact that you have an 8AM tomorrow).

6. When you actually feel like you're passing all of your classes for once.

7. When some creep makes a weird joke on the first (and last) date.

8. When you and your roommates just can't handle the stress of school work anymore and really, desperately need a break.

9. When you get invited to a date party or formal (or just anywhere in general).

10. When people complain about the struggles of easy gen-eds and 12 hour weeks while you're over here taking 300 level classes as a freshman with 16 hours of coursework.

11. When you finally, just barely get through the week.

12. When you're forced to spot people hooking up out in the open at a party like nobody can even see them.

13. When you find that most guys are just as immature in college as they were in high school.

14. When you just have a casual mental breakdown from the millions of assignments that all of your teachers just gave you at once.

15. When you and your roomie start finishing each others' sentences and becoming one another.

However, at the end of the day, you know that college is the best experience ever, and you wouldn't trade it for the world. You grow as a person, explore new things, learn about yourself, and finally start the path to your career. You appreciate how lucky you are to live in your new favorite place, whether it's Knoxville (like me) or any other city. You just know that life doesn't get much better than this.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
