"Spend a little more time trying to make something of yourself and a little less time trying to impress people." This quote from the movie "The Breakfast Club" has stuck with me since I first watched it. It has paved the way I have lived my life and morphed my style of thinking in college as well. By wasting time trying to impress other people, you are losing who you truly are and who you are meant to become. Everything you do must be for the better of your future whether that be tomorrow, next month, or 10 years from now. You have to better yourself in order to get to where you want to get to. Your time in college is a time for you to be selfish.

Be selfish with your time.

Whether that means what you're doing with it or who you're spending it with, make sure that it's time worth spending. If you need to study extra late for an important exam, then study. If you need to binge watch Netflix with a bowl of popcorn, binge away. Stop responding to people who only come to you when they need something. Your time in college is so precious and much too short. Spending it on the wrong things can be very costly, so be selfish enough to know what and who deserves your time.

Be selfish with your emotions.

Leave behind that boy who doesn't know what he wants. Or that girl who gets upset over anything and everything you do. Unless you know for a fact that having them in your life will benefit you one day, you need to let them go. Your emotional state in college is so important that you cannot afford to worry about temporary people. Fill your circle with people who bring joy and laughter, who are wise beyond their years and will stand by your side no matter what. Do not waste your love on people who do not deserve it.

Be selfish with your ambitions.

Work towards what you want and don't let anyone get in the way of that. Make sure that your ambition is what you want and not something that your parents or another person forced upon you. College is a time for working towards your future. Your goals may seem silly to someone else who is working towards something completely different. Forget them and continue to follow your path. There will be many influences and occurrences that may cause you to question yourself, but as long as you remain selfish in that what you're working towards is for you and not for anyone else, you will get there.

By focusing on bettering yourself and figuring out what you want, you will without a doubt live a happier and less stressful life. Stop worrying about impressing other people and start impressing yourself. Make your years in college count.

After all, college is about finding yourself and working towards your future.

Christmas Tree

Now that Halloween is over, it's time to focus on the Holiday Season. Don't get me wrong, I think Thanksgiving is great and can't wait for it, but nothing gives me greater joy than watching Freeform's 25 Days of Christmas, lighting peppermint scented candles, decking the halls, and baking gingerbread cookies. So while we approach the greatest time of the year, let's watch the 15 best Christmas movies of all time.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. Ever heard of “pain is temporary, but GPA is forever?” Pre-meds don’t just embody that motto; we live and breathe it. Here are 10 symptoms you’re down with the pre-med student syndrome.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
