Finals are over & summer is here! Make way for the beach, lots of free time, and no schoolwork!!

.... unless you are interning or taking summer classes. or working. or for student-athletes, there is never an offseason.

Here is a list of all the thoughts that the average student has while heading home from college and heading into summer.

1. "How in the world am I going to fit all of this into my car?"

If you lived on campus, this is a big issue. Will I really need all of these t-shirts I got from on campus events?? Packing extraordinaires, help needed!!

2. "Wow, I need a job."

How am I supposed to do all of the things on my summer bucket list if I have no money?

3. "I can't wait for my parents to pay for everything again."

Nothing better than schmoozing off of your parents' annual income and living rent-free for a few months. Goodbye internet bill!!!!! .... for now anyway.

4. "I don't have to worry about school for like, 3 whole months."

When driving home, this is probably the thought that gets you so excited that you go 85 without even realizing it.

6. "Crap, I forgot I signed up for summer classes online."

And this will slow you back down. Don't forget the summer semester starts sooner than you think!

6. "I am going to have so much free time!"

Ha, you thought. Say goodbye to binge-watching Netflix and say hello to summer online classes and internships.

7. "I'm going to work out all the time."

Hahahaha except when you accidentally watch Netflix until 2 a.m. and you sleep the entire next day away. Or when you go outside to run and walk right back inside because 90 degrees with 100% humidity just wasn't part of your plan.

8. "I'm going to get so tan!"

Now this one is actually a little bit easier to do. Whether it be the beach or the lake, the river or the pool, getting sun is the summer is a MUST and is actually pretty easy to do.

9. "Wow I'm going to miss all of my college friends."

But what about all of your hometown friends? Summer is such a great time to catch up with your old pals that either stayed home or went to another university.

Whether you are staying busy with schoolwork or catching some rays at the beach, this summer is a good time for relaxation from the bustle of college life.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
