Well, Thanksgiving break is officially behind us which means in order to make it to Christmas break it's full steam ahead for finals! We all know how stressful finals can be, so remember to use these tips to be successful! P.S; these tips only work when paired with studying. Studying is key!

1. Print a calendar to organize

You can print a free downloadable calendar here. Write down due dates for assignments, test dates, review dates/times, and don't forget to schedule yourself some breaks! This will help you stay organized, and stay on task.

2. Eat and drink healthy

Everything is better in moderation. Avoid drinking coffee continuously- it will make you jittery and cause you to lose sleep. Eat healthy, and drink plenty of water. *secret* research has demonstrated that water boosts your brains reaction time!

3. Take a hot shower

The hot water will help you relax, and will help your brain retain the information you just studied.

4. Relax before bed

Give yourself 30-45 minutes of relaxing in between studying and going to bed. This will allow your brain to catch up and settle down.

5. Drink a cup of tea before bed

If you need a little help falling asleep, try drinking a cup of hot chamomile tea before bed. You can even try a small mug of warm milk.

6. Get a good nights sleep

Going to bed early won't help you if you aren't tired- but you need a good, full nights sleep so you feel refreshed and ready to study the next day. A good nights sleep is especially important before a test!

7. Review your notes throughout the day

If you have 10 minutes between classes re-read your notes and mark where you left off. This will prepare your brain to study later while retaining some information (even if it's only a little).

8. Pet therapy

Often, colleges bring in therapy dogs during midterms and finals week. Take full advantage! Petting a dog is not only enjoyable but it will distract you from thinking about school for a minute.

9. Emergency dance party

Christina and Meredith were on the right track with emergency dance parties. Pick your favorite song and dance with a friend-- or even alone for the duration of the song. You'll release some tension that you've built up.

10. Don't procrastinate

Procrastination may appear to work, but I promise you.. it doesn't. Study moderately for a couple hours at a time. Waiting until last minute won't help!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
