- Keep your schedule with you at all times.
In my dorm I have a whiteboard calendar and I also carry my planner with me at all time. The calendar helps me to visualize the amount of time I have to complete something while the planner is a more portable and immediate form of organization.
2. Make time for things that make you happy.
It’s easy to forget your passions when you spend hours studying. Try not to ignore your gut and do things that will make you successful. Sometimes an hour at the gym or art studio is more beneficial than an hour overanalyzing your homework.
3. Find your study spot.
Everyone thrives in a different kind of study space. Coffee shops on campus, the Library and common rooms are all great places. Choose the spot where you can be most successful.
4. Tweak projects to your interests.
Often large projects are somewhat open ended. When they are, make sure you choose a topic that you’re interested in. It’s much easier to write a 12 page paper on something you enjoy rather than a random topic you picked at the last second.
5. Allow yourself a day of play.
Take a much needed day off at least once a week. We all deserve it after a week hitting the books. Get off campus, take a break from the cafeteria food, and go out for once, we are college students after all!
6. Drink lots of water.
As a college student I often neglect this. Have your water bottle with you at all times and make it a goal to drink one or two bottles full each day. Your body and your brain will thank you.
7. Listen to music that makes you feel good.
Sometimes we have homework that we are absolutely not interested in, listen to music that you love to help with this. Whether you’re actually listening to it or not, your subconsious will put you in a better mood.
8. Make your dorm a sanctuary.
Your dorm is a place for self expression and relaxation. Make sure your space reflects the mood you want to feel while inside it. My roommate and I have found that string lights make our room cosy and homey. Find something that helps you feel this way too.
9. Take a deep breath.
College can be overwhelming sometimes. Take a moment to remember that you have people that love and care about you. Your GPA does not define you.
10. Focus on your main goal.
We all came to college for the same reason; we have an end career goal. Reminding yourself of your goal can make achieving it seem a little easier. You’re on the path to success, it just a matter of which way you turn.
