When we were kids the idea of being out of school for the summer meant staying up late, hanging out with friends and spending hours at the pool. Being out of school now feels vaguely similar to that of being a child, however it comes with more responsibility. While you do enjoy the sun and the warm weather, you miss your friends from school and you're confronted with summer jobs, internships and maybe even taking summer classes. Here are the actual pros and cons to the famous summer break.
1. Pro: Home Sweet Home
Being home can be one of the greatest feelings in the world, because for the past eight months you've been telling all of your friends at school how great your hometown is. You've told the stories about how the sunsets are unbeatable, the views are breathtaking and the adventures you have with yours friends are the craziest and most memorable. So now that you're back it's time to make more stories.
2. Con: Campus Withdrawals
Now to be clear, campus withdrawals do not include class/homework/test withdrawals. It simply means that you miss being surrounded by the most beautiful campus on Earth, with the best sports teams, amazing people and historic traditions. Summer vacation will prove to you exactly why you chose to go to your University. (BOOMER)
3. Pro: Good Ol' Friends
Your friends at home are some of your oldest, closest and craziest friends. The kind of friendship you have with all of them is irreplaceable (and possibly life threatening). They might be crazy but they know how to have a good time and certainly won't hold out for anything less. You can be sure that your summer won't be anything less than an adventure.
4. Con: Summer Bod?
After the festivities of Spring Break all your hard work and careful food watching went out the door, the stress of finals didn't help any either. Now you've arrived at prime bikini weather and what are you to do? You find yourself in a bit of a dilemma because you love how your house is always overflowing with food and ice cream seems to restock itself...
5. Pro: Summer Concerts
With all the festival girls and Instagram posts you've seen you can only assume that it's concert weather. Even if you aren't a huge fan of whoever is playing you've decided that any concert is better than no concert. And besides you and your friends can dress up and fill your selfie quota for the month.
6. Con: Jobs, Jobs, Jobs
Because you'd rather be spending your time going to concerts and camping with your friends you can't help but find work to be slightly less exciting than your summer plans.. Aside from the fact that it is a necessity to keep up your lavish lifestyle, you just got done with school and starting up a full time commitment is the farthest thing from your mind.
7. Pro: $$$
Even though working isn't how the rich kids of Beverly Hills spend their summers, you and the rich kids both hold one thing in common. The need for summer cash. Instead of asking the bank of daddy for a couple hundred you rely on your paychecks. Which makes you realize you need the paychecks to feed your sushi addiction as well as pay for your concert tickets. In reality, you love your job!
8. Con: New Friends
You find yourself on the verge of a mental breakdown a week after getting home when you realize that you can't break down your hall-mates door to solve late night problems. Living within 100 feet of people does something to you and though you're glad to be out of the dorms you miss having five different doors to knock on if you need someone to talk to.
9. Pro: Mom's Cooking
No matter if you hated or loved the food on campus there is no doubt that your kitchen at home cranks out some dangerously good stuff. Your mom knows exactly what you like and how you like it and you don't even have to ask. It's like the best delivery service in the world without the delivery or the fees.
10. Con: Summer Classes
For some people school never really stops. Whether you're playing catch up or are trying to get ahead, summer classes are by far the smartest thing a college student can do. That, however, doesn't mean it's the most exciting way to spend summer, especially if you're stuck reading Shakespeare and have to play both the part of Romeo and Juliet.
11. Pro: Bonfires
What do you get when you mix: late summer nights, college kids and bonfires? A good time, that's what you get. Bonfires are the perfect place to catch up on college adventures and listen to good music. You never know what kind of stories will arise from these kinds of nights.
12. Con: Unpacking
You get home from school on May 13 at 6:43 p.m. and you put all of your boxes in your room, you stare at them and then turn around and walk the other way. You go back to school on August 20 at 9:12 a.m. and you still haven't unpacked. You've been living out of boxes for months now and you don't really care, you would have had to re-pack it anyways.
13: Pro: Endless Sleep
It's widely known that college students are perpetually tired, well good news kids, summer has arrived. So somewhere in-between the sushi dates, camping, bonfires, road-trips, work and summer adventuring you'll have plenty of time to sleep....
