July is just around the corner which means we are all well into the heart and soul of summer – a time where humidity is in the air, tourists flock to the beaches like they are seagulls themselves, and the sound of lawn mowers and sprinklers wake you up every morning no matter how hard you try to sleep in.
With my bit of pessimism set aside, summer is actually a great time of year – especially for college students. It's the few months a year when we can actually spend quality time with family and friends from home we haven't seen in forever. It's also a time when we can take a break from the endless responsibilities that are present during the school year. We go through a lot during those two semesters away at college. And we need this time to unwind and recharge.
Recently, while binge watching "The Office" on Netflix until 2 a.m., I realized just how much the sitcom related to my summer experience thus far.
1. Finishing your last final of the year
It's a liberating feeling to be finished with the last semester of another year of studying, studying and more studying. The library has probably never looked as unappealing to me as it did on the night before my last final of the year.
2. Seeing your parents for the first time in months
Stop trying to deny it. We all know that you missed your parents. You know, the people who fed, clothed and sheltered you for 18 years of your life? Yeah, them. Obviously you are happy that you don't have to buy your own groceries for three months (I know I am).
3. When move out day comes and you have to say goodbye to your friends
Leaving the friends you've grown and lived with over the past nine months is definitely the hardest part about summer break. But visiting them is the best part about it!
4. Finally being free of responsibilities for three whole months
At last you can fulfill the daydreams that have been swimming around in your head when you should've been paying attention in class!
5. The first two weeks of summer break has got you like:
Not a care in the world; the only thing that matters is remembering to put on sunscreen.
6. And then you realize the school year left you broke
Somehow, paying for books and wasting all of your money on Chipotle and frozen yogurt (ahem, me) has left you money-less.
7. Quickly your summer turns into working every day
But that's just the life of a college student.
8. School and responsibilities seem so far away
You don't even give a second thought to buying books or packing your massive amounts of college stuff.
9. But before you know it, summer is over
Three months goes by quick!
