Things All College Students Do During the Summer
We Know Your Dreamz

Once school lets out for the summer and everyone rushes home there are a few things that all college students do. When you live on campus during the school year there are several things that you just have to do when you get home.

1. Visit Family

The immediate family a lot of people live with and your extended family too! I love to visit my grandparents over the summer!

2. Go to your favorite restaurant

Whether you're from the Chicagoland area and that's Portillos or another local favorite, getting food from your favorite place is a great way to start the summer.

3. Get some sun!

Without classes all day every day you can actually get outside and enjoy the sun! After the crazy long, dark winters of the midwest nothing feels better than the summer sun!

4. Get lots of Dunkin' Donuts and/or Starbucks

If you're like me and go to a school where the nearest Dunkin' Donuts or Starbucks is an hour away, this is a must. Besides, who can beat DD's happy hour?

5. Work

Sometimes one of the less glamorous parts of summer, but definitely a necessary part, is having a summer job. Without classes summer is the perfect time to earn some extra cash.

6. See old friends

Summertime is the perfect time to catch up with friends old and new. The friends you don't get to see during the school year because you're all at different schools, the friends you've made at school or at work, summertime is the time to see them all.

7. Shopping

During the summer you have so much more time to go shopping to get clothes, items for the dorm room or apartment and whatever you need for the school year. With all the free time in the summer its the perfect time to get everything you need.

8. Get Creative

Again lots of free time means time to let the creative juices flow! Whether through art, music, writing etc., its the perfect time.

9. Go to the pool/beach

Splash around in the pool/lake/ocean like a little kid with your friends. Its a great way to not only have fun but get some exercise too!

10. Eat all the ice cream!

All day every day. There's no bad time for ice cream. Whether its your favorite local place, Oberweis, Dairy Queen, etc., getting ice cream is a perfect way to spend a summer day.

11. Relax!

No classes = time to take a break to get ready for the next school year.

What else is a must do during the summer?

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
