Do you really need to buy those Beats headphones? Or the newest iPhone? Or that giant flat screen television that takes up half of your bedroom wall? Do you need to Netflix and chill? Do you have to record every moment of your life on Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, etc.?
We spend so much of our time trying to impress people. We waste our lives online, instead of actually living. We would rather stare at screens (ie. iPhone, iPad, Mac, television) than actually appreciate what is in front of us. Instead of striving to make the world jealous of all our shiny gadgets, why don’t we spend more time trying to actually improve ourselves? Why don’t we spend more of our time getting to know the people we care about and the world we live in? The following is a list of things college students can do to live simply, and live more!
1. Travel somewhere you’ve never been before.
2. Make something special for someone you love.
3. Take someone you care about out for a good time.
To the zoo, the movie theater, to dinner, downtown. Take them out to let them know that you care about them, that you want to spend time with them, and that you want them to have a good time.
4. Go to more concerts.
While at said concert, do not record every second on your phone. Take one picture, one selfie, and then put your phone away and enjoy it. You know what is way better than watching a pitchy, low-grade recording of a concert? Actually being at the concert and soaking in the whole experience.
5. Go camping.
Go on more hikes – Mother Nature is beautiful.
6. Visit a friend or family member that lives far away.
7. See a Broadway/Theater/Opera performance.
8. Dance.
By yourself, in the shower, in the club, in the kitchen. Dance like nobody is watching, and like you don’t care if anyone is.
9. Sing.
In the shower, in the car, loud and proud, even if your suck at it.
10. Learn a new skill.
Whether it be painting, playing the guitar, doing a handstand. Anything. Gain a new skill, because you can.
