During this time of the year, it is highly common for people to feel more optimistic about things, despite the hardships and struggles they are currently facing. This is a time to surround yourself with friends and family and simply be grateful for everything thus far in life. Yet when it comes to the life of a college student, we tend to feel differently about this "joyful time of the year."
Here are 5 things that college are NOT thankful for:
1. Tuition
This goes without saying that the amount we pay yearly to receive a college education is absolutely ridiculous. The world we live in today makes having a degree seem necessary to be successful, so why must we pay so much to earn one? I believe education is extremely important, but I disagree with the damage it is doing to my bank account.
2. The freshmen 15... sophomore 20... etc.
Ever since I started college, counting my calories and motivating myself to go to the gym has been a daily struggle. When the dining hall offers you a wide variety of food, from made to order sandwiches to Asian cuisine to a delicious array of desserts, how does one not go up a size? The weight I have gained since being here is definitely not something I am proud of nor happy about, but the food was definitely worth it.
3. The end of football season
It's sad to say this football season is officially coming to an end, which means waiting another year for early morning tailgates and student section rallies. Who knows, I may even miss having Dirty B's for breakfast and Valentinos pizza for lunch every Saturday. On the bright side, this means the start of basketball season for most colleges.
4. Finals
Thanksgiving break is all fun and games until you come back to school and realize you have just a few weeks to cram all of the information from 5 classes into your brain to prepare yourself for finals. An instant feeling of regret overcomes you, as you realized all you did over break was stuff your face with food and catch up on your favorite Netflix show.
5. The mile walk to the restroom
Nothing is worse than waking up in the morning and having to walk your half asleep self to the bathroom at the very end of the hall. No one should have to walk that far in order to use the restroom, nor should anyone have to show the world what they look like after just waking up. The privilege of having a bathroom to yourself, where you don't have to wear shoes in the shower, is truly something any college student yearns for.
