College Students Are the Same as 5-Year-Olds

We both really love naps…

College Students Are the Same as 5-Year-Olds

The moment students enter college we think we are invincible. Finally we're adults with responsibilities and independence. It is time to act mature and grow up.

Joke's on us.

If there is anything that college has taught me, it is that I am more like a 5-year-old now than any at any other point in my life. From the things we eat to the way we act, we are more like 5-year-olds than we realize.

1. Poptarts, Kraft Mac n’ Cheese and fruit snacks all constitute parts of our daily diet.

“Hello kind dining hall server. May I please receive pasta, bread and more pasta? And please don’t let anything green touch my plate.

2. Naptime is the best time of our days.

Anytime, anywhere.

3. Morning is our least favorite time of day.

Let's just go back to nap time, shall we?

4. Our mood changes from laughing to crying in seconds.

The “I don’t know what I’m doing with my life" crisis is all too real.

5. We both play hide and seek.

Except now it’s hiding from your ex and his/her girlfriend/boyfriend.

6. No matter how old we get, we still need our parents.

“Mom, I need you to come rescue me because the real world is weird and scary, and I hate it.”

7. We expect someone else to clean up our messes.

“Don’t worry about leaving dishes on the dining hall table. Isn’t that the job of the dining hall servers anyways.” –every ignorant college student ever

8. Our concentration levels are nonexistent.

There's homework...but then there's also Netflix. After all, what's just one episode?...or two?

9. We eat with our hands.

The lowest point of college is when you realize you've run out of dish soap and aren't going to the store for the next week.

10. Germs don’t phase us.

Haven’t washed your sheets since college started? Well, what’s one more week?

11. Little things get us really excited.

“I didn't fail my exam today! I'm not going to be a college dropout WOOHOOO!"

12. We're both perpetually broke.

Free things? Sign me up!

13. Those 'epic fail' moments happen to us every day.

When you try to impress your crush but you end up making an even bigger fool out of yourself. #leavingthecountryforever

14. We still think we're the coolest thing since sliced bread.

No matter how many times your friends tell you that you can't dance, you never listen to them.

You're never too old to let your inner child shine. Sure, you may not have enough cash to buy food that's not Ramen noodles. Maybe you still don't know what you want to do with your life. At the end of the day, you know it'll be okay. One day you'll grow up and be an adult, but for now you're just having fun in the moment.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
