We've talked about college since our second semester of senior year. We'll be living there for four to five years. I never thought that getting ready for college would be a journey of its own.
Some of us have already finished shopping for campus while others are about to start. As tedious as it is, shopping for college is one of most fun experiences I've ever had.
Here are 5 thoughts you most likely will encounter or have encountered while shopping for college:
1. Where do I start?
Typically the school gives a list of items you should purchase. Items like bedding and lamps are a must; but, what about those other things like fans, vacuums, mirrors, irons, and school supplies. I guess we have to rely on Pinterest and other sites to help us create a master list for college.
2. Bed Bath and Beyond is the place to be. When I'm here, I've hit the jackpot.
Now I've been to Bed Bath and Beyond before, but this place feels like paradise when you haven't created that master list of school supplies. The "Beyond" part is real. This is a great place to buy bedding, organizers, and cool accessories for your appliances, such as a laptop pads.
3. Am I really going to college?
Your mom will ask which laptop, desk lamp, bedding sheet, or backrest pillow you want and you'll shrug your shoulder. After telling your friends and families about your college, you'll understand how surreal it feels while shopping for that final destination.
Chances are, you'll meet some other kid from your grade who's also shopping. I saw either six high school classmates or their parents at Bed Bath and Beyond and Walmart.
4. Why do or don't I like this stuff?
When you finally choose to accept that you'll be going to school someplace else, you'll think about the person you want to be.
Do I want to be walking around with those kind of clothes on?
High school-style binder or hybrid binder?
What kind of laptop will help me get through CS?
Should I even consider taking notes on paper? Everyone will just bring their laptops to lectures, right?
Maybe mechanical pencils aren't cool anymore...
5. I've used so much money. Yikes.
Even when the appliance store or the beloved Bed Bath and Beyond has a twenty percent discount, you will or you will have spent thousands of dollars shopping for your first year of college.
