The Differences Between College Semesters And College Summers

We are tired of the library but the beach is getting boring, too. Could it be the sun getting to us or simply the nature of the college student?!

The Differences Between College Semesters And College Summers
College Life

When we are in school all we want is summer. When it is summer all we want is college. I guess it's true that we always want what we can't have. So what exactly are some of the differences between college school semesters and college summers? Here ya go!

Amount of Free Time at School. During the school year you may feel like you have time but do you really? Have you started that paper due next week? Have you even looked at your notes you are about to be tested on?

Amount of Free Time During Summer Break. Ahhhh summer. The long awaited break from classes and homework. Now’s the time you get to relax, sit at the pool, and not have a worry in the world, right? Wrong! If you are in college, you likely know the school-year struggle of that thing called money. Summer is the time to rack up all that money so you can maybe not feel so broke in the fall.

Feelings of Being at College During the Semester. It’s four weeks into the semester and all you really want to do is go back to syllabus week. How is it possible, in four short weeks, to have three papers due, four exams, and two projects due?! And all due in one week?! Can we please just go back home and sit at home watching Netflix all day?!

Feelings of Being at College During Summer Break. It’s four weeks into summer and you are already so bored!! You realize so many of your best friends are thousands of miles away exploring Europe. Remember that feeling of being overwhelmed by all those assignments in the first four weeks of the semester? Ahh, that’s fine, we can handle it! We just want to be back at school with our best friends 24/7.

Emotional Breakdowns During the Semester. Let’s get real. Syllabus week is over. No more free time. At least no more free time that you should be taking. So you’ve had an emotional breakdown? Oh, that’s right, we are at college. We’ve probably had at least four breakdowns, in the last three hours. College is so much fun but sometimes you just gotta let it out. And that is completely fine!

Emotional Breakdowns During Summer Break. No end of syllabus week to stress us out. No assignments to stress over. It may seem like there is no reason to have emotional breakdowns. And that might be true. But you might have a few breakdowns because you aren’t at college. You can’t get away from whatever it is you are doing. You have to work six days a week just to make that money you want for the school year. Well, that’s three reasons to breakdown right there! It looks like the only difference between breakdowns during the school year and during the summer is the reason for the breakdown. School and assignments or sadness for not being in college?

We may always want what we can't have, so why not embrace what we have, when we have it?!

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
