A College Semester Told by Disney Movies

All college students at some point will admit to you, that it is daunting and gruesome. We all live for those easy semesters that we can coast through and not question our existence more than twice. More often than not, we have (several) struggles through our semester that leaves us questioning, why weren’t born an heir to a Disney throne? Simply put, the only way to get through these ceaseless struggles are to acknowledge that even those is Disney movies are faced with debilitating tasks.

1. When you finally get to see your friends and celebrate, perhaps a little too much, after not seeing most of them all summer.

2. That first day of class and the professor wants to know an “interesting” fact about you.

3. That time you have a pop quiz and it’s the one time you didn’t do the assigned reading.

4. When you finally have a night off so you can go out with your friends.

As the night goes on, you have a few more drinks than you expected. Your friends are struggling and they aren't going to make it home tonight. It's up to you to to get yourself back. But there in the distance, is a gleaming red light that is almost as satisfying as the green light across the bay, what is that light? SHEETZ. Your saving grace, if you can make it there in one piece, your future self will thank you in the morning.

5. That time you look at your schedule and your boss scheduled you every day the week before midterms despite you giving the heads up.

6. When you accidentally sleep for an entire eight hours and you wake up seeing daylight, wondering what day it is, and how many deadlines you missed

7. That only time you tried to go to the gym before your 8 A.M.

8. When you finally see your boyfriend, after a much-anticipated wait.

9. That moment you take a break and relax for a day at home and your mom won’t stop yelling at you to go do homework.

10. When you're trying to kiss up to your professor, without directly asking for them to give an opportunity for bonus points.

11. That moment you feel your brain turn into mush after not sleeping more than six hours over the last three days.

12. When you procrastinated and start your “three-page paper” the night before it’s due, then you find out that it’s a fifteen-page minimum.

13. That night out that you meet someone who is really nice, and offers you quality fried food.

14. When someone asks you your plans for after graduation.

15. That moment during finals week when you realize that there is no possible way to pull an A on your last stats research exam, but you study anyways.

16. When all that you have to look forward to is that rare chance of napping during the last week.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. "Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
