NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS 34 – ATLANTA FALCONS 28.
Some people thought that it was a miracle, but never for a moment did I doubt that the Patriots would win. Tom Brady has now solidified his place as the greatest quarterback in football history, as has the Bill Belichick/Brady/Robert Kraft partnership. Super Bowl LI was an unbelievable game with many firsts — the first Super Bowl to go into overtime, the first time a team has overcome a deficit of more than 10 points to win, the first time a quarterback has won five Super Bowls. I could go on, but I won’t. It is truly one for the books. After a disappointingly slow Patriots start, football fans were on the edge of their seats in the fourth quarter and through overtime as the Patriots orchestrated the greatest comeback in NFL history. Even though many New England fans at Fairfield were nervous for the outcome of the game, they were able to celebrate afterward with their friends. There was never a Super Bowl like this year's game and I don't say that just because I am a huge fan of the New England Patriots!
There was a great deal of energy and excitement among those watching the Super Bowl and with only 27 percent of the people in the country rooting for the Patriots, I couldn’t assume that those around me were New England Patriot fans.
At Fairfield, many students supported the Atlanta Falcons because they are sick and tired of the Patriots winning all the time — sounds like they're a little jealous to me —, but deep down inside, I think that they have a lot of respect for Brady, Belichick and the entire Patriots team. It’s hard not to. They taught us some great life lessons about the importance of perseverance, teamwork and class. I, for one, am proud to be a fan. Thank you, Tom Brady and New England Patriots for the incredible game! Your fans adore you, stand behind you and are still celebrating!
