Do you cringe at the thought of using a calendar? Does your desk look cluttered to other people but you claim to know where everything is? If you answered ‘yes’ to these two questions you have an organizational structure like mine – random.
From experience, I’ve learned that completely random is not helpful because you really do loose things this way. I’ve also learned that there are ways to stay organized without being traditional, like using a paper/online calendar. These organization tips should be easy enough for even a seemingly unorganized person to master.
- Keep your binders and books in one location. If you have them spread out, they’re easier to loose. If they’re in one location, you’ll always know where to find them. Put them back in this location after each time you use them.
- Keep your school bag in the same place as your binders and books. Nobody wants to try to carry all of their stuff to class in their arms.
- Have a binder for each class. This makes it more difficult for papers from one class to get mixed up or switched with papers from another class.
- Label the outside of each binder with the class name. When you’re packing your bag at the last minute, it will be more difficult to accidentally grab the wrong binder.
- Keep the syllabus for each class in same place in each binder. This way you will ;know where to look when checking for homework or projects due in the near future.
- Respond to any Google invites you receive from friends, professors or bosses. You don’t have to write it down or do anything but click once and it is saved to your Google calendar. Many invites will even remind you when the event is in 30 minutes. How convenient!
- Keep a jar of extra writing utensils on your desk. This way you always can grab something to write with during class and don’t have to worry about looking for a pencil or pen.
- If all else fails, find the organization style that works for you. Everyone organizes differently. You’ll find a method that works for you.
