A common conversation on college campuses surrounds the topic of majors - which ones are easy, which ones are hard, and which ones are in between. Here's my opinion: none of them are easy.
College is hard for everyone. Yes, some people might experience more stress and difficult times than others, but that doesn't mean that some people have it easy just because of their major. I know people across all schools, departments, and majors at my college, and I don't know anyone who doesn't have to do a lot of work - it's just different depending on the major.
As an English major, I read hundreds of pages a week for one class. Art majors spend hours working on their extremely detailed projects. Business majors spend hours preparing for presentations and writing case studies. Biology majors spend hours studying for exams. Have you noticed the pattern here? Everyone spends hours doing work. Studying for a test is hard, but so is creating a video project. Doing 100 math problems is hard, but so is writing a 20 page paper. I don't understand why, we as college students, have to belittle each other when college is hard enough as it is, and that's without adding the stress of work, extracurricular activities, relationships, friendships, and more.
I truly believe that there's value in every major, and I wish that everyone could see that. Where would we be without artists, writers, and teachers, but where would we be without scientists, engineers, and nurses? Every one of those professions is needed, so we need to stop making people feel bad for following their dreams. Money is not always the goal - happiness is the goal, so I say, you do you. Pick your major, and ignore what everyone else has to say about it. I commend you for finding something that interests you.
College is hard. End of story.
