In high school you heard all the warnings about college, but as soon as you got to college you realized they're not all true. Sure, coming to a new place is a little scary, but don't let these age-old college myths scare you.
1. The professors don't care.
The professors do care (with exceptions to some). They might be there only to get paid, but they don't want their students failing. They have been in our shoes and know how it feels like to be struggling in a class.
2. The bathrooms and showers are disgusting!
The bathroom and showers gets cleaned on a daily basis. The thing that is "dirty" about them is that some people do not know how to clean up after themselves, which could cause the confusion of unsanitary from messy.
3. Don't join any extracurricular activity, sport, or Greek life because it will take away from school.
FALSE! Joining other things is actually better. It will expand your knowledge, friend group, and also will look good on resumes. Joining other things could be time consuming, but learning good time management is all apart of the college experience, and plus a lot of the activities that people join are centered around school.
4. The dining hall food is disgusting.
I am not going to lie some of the things are disgusting in the dining hall, but knowing what is good and tastes right is the way to go. The only thing bad about dining halls is that they are repetitive of what they serve. So it is not that all the food is disgusting, but that of which is growing old to eat.
5. You are going to be in so much debt out of college.
College students are known for having a lot of debt out of college, but there are ways to reduce those numbers. This includes scholarships and grants. Start early for applying to the scholarships. Look at the school you want to go to and see what they offer. If you have to take out loans, watch the interest rates and DO NOT take more than needed.
